The world of diamonds and diamond jewelry is a world of its own. Combining beauty, value and portability make them ideal for private ownership and the movement of wealth. Occasionally valuable diamonds and jewelry are lost or disappear. Walter Wainwright knew nothing of this world and had no interest in missing diamonds or jewelry.
This day he was only concerned about making it back to his cabin in the foothills near Dubois, Wyoming before dark. The Wednesday morning flight from Washington, D.C. to Denver gave him time to get there and even make a quick stop for a hamburger and beer at The Hitching Rack in Lander. Turning his Mercedes camper van into The Hitching Rack's empty parking lot he is reminded that it is closed on Wednesdays. He decides, disappointed, to drive on around the building to return to the highway.
Behind the building a big man was in the bed of a pick- up truck throwing out someone's belongings onto the ground and as Walter watched, he dragged a young woman out of the cab pushing her onto the pile. Seeing Walter approach, the man decided to make his exit.
Walter then meets the beautiful Suzanne Sussman, sitting on her worldly goods with no place to go and no way to get there. They would spend that night in Walter's van at the Dubois Campground and just days later a chance meeting with an elderly resident of Dubois, Mary White, starts them on the search for two of the most famous lost jewels in the world.
WAINWRIGHT is the story of how this jewelry was found and the meeting of the many interesting people involved. It goes back into the history of ownership and the times as the jewelry changes hands until it was eventually found. It is also the love story of the two special people who find them.
